Rootcube 65x60x50 mm hole 30 mm,
Hortis Plant-in Growing Medium is an ideal rooting medium for cuttings. It is used for propagation of all types of cuttings from soft material to hardy Nursery Stock. It is available in many sizes and shapes.
Hortis Plant-ins Grow Cube was developed for transplanting in gullies, ebb- and flood benches and Grow Slabs.
Hortis Plant-ins Growing Medium is a propagation and transplanting medium with excellent properties for the professional grower:
- Light weight, fast and easy working.
- Sterile, no preventive disinfecting necessary.
- The pH is in the ideal range of 5.5-6.5 with a total soluble salt content less than 1.4 mS/cm.
- Aeration after saturation drainage of 45% with 55% residual water content.
- A small amount of 1:1:1 analysis fertiliser to act as a starter feed plus a special additive for cation ex¬change capacity.
- Always constant in quality of the original material.
General Handling Procedures
Hortis Growing Medium Flox
agrimedia strives to contribute to the growers successful use of Hortis products. To this success, we have prepared the following guidelines to answer the most frequently asked questions. The responsible grower however must take into consideration the specific cultural requirements of the crop and nursery conditions.
Aeration
After placing Hortis Growing Medium in the greenhouse beds or gullies hold greenhouse at a temperature of 20°C for at least two days. Take care of good ventilation and change of air.
Watering
Never contact plants with dry Hortis Growing Medium. Before crop starting a water analysis is recommended (take care of zinc in rain water and of bi-carbonate and iron in pump-water). Hortis Growing Medium Flox are delivered with calcium carbonat added (to lift up pH). They have to be watered to full saturation if required with nutrient solution.
Planting
Check up pH before planting or potting. When potting, simply firm the foam around the roots of the plant. Do not apply excessive pressure as this will collapse the foam structure and destroy its effectiveness. During establishing the crop short irrigation cycles can be necessary.
Irrigation
Irrigation is depending on the system (container, bags, bed). Drip irrigation as well as rain pipes can be used. Irrigation rate per day is mainly determined by evaporation of the plants. It is important to have enough drainage according to the water quality. This means to drain a higher quantity of water when water with high salt content is used. This helps to keep away from enrichment of salt concentration. According to the excellent drainage properties always enough water can be used. Hortis Growing Medium will not be too wet.
Fertilization
Hortis Growing Medium contains no nutrients, macro- or micro-elements, nor does it have any cation exchange capacity. All nutrients necessary have to be applied by liquid fertilization. A water analysis is recommended. Use a nutrient solution specially prepared for the crop grown. For many crops the research stations in Naaldwijk and Aalsmeer established fertilizing programs.
A pH of 5.0-6.5 is recommended. Grower experience has shown that with Hortis Growing Medium in a wide pH range good results can be received.
The optimum of EC is strongly depending on the season (higher in winter, lower in summer). Quality of the crop (for instance flowers of Anthurium) is also depending on the EC. As the optimum of EC is also depending on the cultivar take care of controlling each cultivar separately. Important! Modern hydroponic cultivation methods allow intensified use of automatic controlled watering and fertilzation systems. However they require routine test procedures.
The grower has to check 2-3 times a week
* quantity of drainage water
* pH
* EC
and also periodical every 3-4 weeks
* analysis of macro- and micro- nutrients.
